Kings Mountain Meritage™ is a Bordeaux style blend, molded after the great wines of France. The blend consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec. These vines yield a deep ruby color wine with dense concentrated dark fruit flavors, chocolate and spice, which are balanced with crisp acidity, firm yet supple tannins and undertones of French oak, leading to a rich finish.

A smack of earth, roasted chiles, dark chocolate mole, tobacco and classic tack and leather aromas declare this to be a righteous Bordeaux blend, with a little something extra. It’s tightly wound and powerful, endowed with plentiful dark and savory fruits, like roasted plums, mission figs, dates and dried cherries. Underneath lies a smoky meaty layer, wrapped in resounding acidity yet tamed by ample crushed velvet tannins, that continue to intrigue, all the way to the long, robust finish. Classic stuff, with another 10 years of evolution stacked and ready for those who still view patience as a virtue. Pair with horseradish encrusted prime rib and Yorkshire pudding, or lamb osso bucco.

Aromas of balsam, red raspberry, tea, cinnamon stick and cedar tickle the nose, and the flavors don’t depart far from the scents, which is a bit unusual for California Cab-based blends. But this isn’t really California: it hews more towards Bordeaux in its lean, tight focal points, specifically the herbs and bright red fruits, all bathed in savory pine and balsamic. Hints of black olive, capers and dark chocolate round out this beautiful wine that has plenty of gumption left. Cellar for another 2—4 years, but drink now and enjoy with holiday meals. Spectacular with roasted elk or bison, or rack of lamb.
