The origin of Kings Mountain Pinot Noir is Clone #13 vines from the Louis Martini Vineyards, one of the oldest Pinot Noir clones in California. These vines produce a complex wine with a rich ruby color and an earthy nature, expressing the terroir, typical of the clone. Fruit aromas of dark cherry, guava and cocoa are typical of this Burgundy style Pinot Noir. The oak tannins are in balance with the fruit acidity and flavor, yielding a Pinot Noir with depth and concentration, yet still retaining a soft style. In 2009 we grafted our vineyard to grow exclusively pinot noir grapes.

In 2011, we added Clone 667 to our award winning Clone 13, creating BACCHUS™, a Pinot blend fit for the god of wine.

    Tasting Notes

    1/25/2018 - 2013 Clone 13 Pinot Noir, Estate
Aromas of grilled plums, pomegranate, sweet strawberry jam, leather, smoke, spice and a hint of grilled chiles promise a wine of breadth, depth, raw power and driving energy.
At first, it’s like a carriage pulled by a two-horse team of oak and acid that threaten to make off with goods, but it quickly settles down with some air to reveal a positively potent Pinot, fleshed with dusty earth, dark plum, savory meat and racy raspberry. The finish erupts like a volcano of fine tannin.
Much like a bigger style of Burgundy—Bouchard’s Grand Cru Le Corton from the Côte de Beaune in the southern part of the Cotes d’Or comes to mind—this wine transcends the now for perfection down the road. Clearly, it has the horsepower to carry it through decades in the cellar.
For now, decant it to let the components shake hands and get along.

    1/25/2018 - 2013 “Bacchus” Pinot Noir, Estate

Enormous. That’s this wine in a word. Add to that, tempestuous, youthful and assertive. Its big, bold aromatics of cranberry, pomegranate, raspberry tea and allspice are underscored by rich notes of butterscotch and crème brulee. Nothing shy about it. The massively bold flavors skew predominantly to raspberry whole wheat bars and toasted pecans, and are heavily accented by the 100% new oak in which it was fermented, giving the wine an infusion of clove, pomegranate and balsamic. This rebellious teenager will benefit enormously from spending some time locked up in his room.

3/21/2016 - This is a serious French style Pinot with a backbone. This Pinot is 100% Clone 13 and aged in all new French oak for 18 months. This wine has a deep ruby color with berry fruits up front and an excellent earthy finish.

7/19/2012 - The 2008 Pinot noir is just gorgeous right now! Beautiful color and fruit up front, nice terroir and soft finish. Loving it!

Feb 2012 - We will be releasing the 2008 Pinot Noir on April 1 at the Pinot Paradise in Campbell, CA. Come be the first to taste our latest vintage of award winning Pinot Noirs! They will be avilable on-line on April 1, 2012.

10/25/2011 - The 2007 Pinot was awarded a double gold, 98 points and best of micro wineries at the California State Wine Competition in June of 2011.

1/31/2011 - We just tasted the 2007 Pinot and it was AWESOME!

1/20/2011 - The 2002 is drinking very nicely right now. The group favorite seems to be the 2006 and the 2005 is right there too. I like the 2004 with spicy food, it holds up very well. These are classy Pinots!
